JANUARY 18, 2008: Wow! Naughty me! Its been MONTHS since I've come here to update any info. I blame it all on Myspace. More people seem to visit the Anatomy FX Myspace page than they do THIS page.
Well 2008 is definitely starting off with a bang for your friends at Anatomy FX. Out T-shirts are ready to roll out, first off! Hopefully we'll have the "Buy Now" feature up on the site soon so you can just click and buy. What do the T-shirts say, you ask? They say "MAKEUP ARTISTS DO IT ON YOUR FACE". You KNOW you've gotta have one of those!
We're also full tilt boogie into pre-production on two new films -a crazy surreal drama called "The Man Who Wasn't" and our second vampire feature for Red Scream Films -tentatively titled "Red Scream Nosferatu". We're firing up our big new foam latex oven and cranking out a ton of prosthetics for these two beauties. Just WAIT til you see what we have in store. They each have their own photo gallery, so check back often to see the progress.
If I don't get back here as much to make updates, know that I've got my tattered, dog-eared copy of "Helter Skelter" and a pink highlighter... and I'll be thinking of YOU...
OCTOBER 13, 2007: Its been a crazy CRAZY few weeks, my little fright fiends. I regret that I haven't been around much to update things here, but we've been jumping harder and faster than ever before at good ol' Six Flags Great Adventure! We hit the gorund running for our lives this year. After our initial 2007 Fright Fest meeting, we jumped right into fabrication. On what, you ask? Well hang on to your drool cups and I'll get to that. I'll begin by saying that this is the first year that they asked us to contribute production design concepts to a new area of the park. This new area is called "The Demented Forest". Its a twist on a lot of old time fairy tales (think Disney in bondage). We've come up with a whole walk-through area that they call a "terror trail" and filled it entirely with prosthetic characters -more than we've ever done at one time before. By the end of October, we'll have run over 260 foam latex prosthetics for this project. We actually have to get a bigger oven just to accomodate it all. Witches, evil carnivorous fairies, freakishly mutated frog princes, spider people and hulking trolls -we've got it all jam-packed in there! If you're in New Jersey this October (and lets face it, all the REALLY cool people are), then I suggest you drop by Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ to check out all of the carnage. You still have three weekends left to come and see it all. Don't MAKE me send one of my trolls out to get you!
I'll be moving the Fright Fest makeup gallery right under the Red Scream gallery so you can check out all of the cool prosthetic characters we're cranking out for this project!
AUGUST 6, 2007: Okay... I've been a bad boy again. Its been a LONG time since the last update. That doesn't mean there's no news to announce. It simply means I've been slacking. Its been a busy, busy year for Anatomy FX. Since the wrap of "Red Scream Vampyres" and the Fangoria Convention, we've been hard at work on two other projects. The difference is, this will be the first time we won't actually be on set for either of them!!! We just finished whipping up some severed heads and various other body parts for the short film "Cracked Out Super Heroes" shooting in Manhattan in September. We're not quite sure how they'll be utilized in the final project, but it has something to do with a murder spree right in the middle of Times Square!!! We've also been hard at work running various foam prosthetics for "Terminal Descent". This is a new feature from Red Scream Films -the company behind "Red Scream Vampyres" up in Buffalo. "Terminal Descent" is an experimental film project that they'll be shooting completely ad-libbed with no script (think Blair Witch). It has something to do with urban explorers encountering a clan of murderous CHUDS in the tunnels beneath Buffalo. Again, we won't actually be on set. The prosthetics we're making will all be applied by an up and coming makeup artist local to that area. I'm excited about all of this beacuse it really opens up a whole new avenue for us -supplying high-quality props and prosthetics to productions all over the country through mail order.
And, last but not least, yours ghoully has been in touch with the fine folks at Six Flags Great Adventure! Thats right!!! Its that time of year again... already! I'm already deep in the design process for all new ghouls and monsters of every shape and size for the 2007 Fright Fest season! There will be plenty more Fright Fest news to announce as we move closer to September. In the meantime, check out the "Red Scream" photo gallery if you haven't already. And be sure to stop by out Myspace profile and add us. We're always posting all kinds of bulletins with little news announcements there. www.myspace.com/anatomyfx
We'll be seeing you soon!
JUNE 20, 2007: IT'S A WRAP!!!! "Red Scream Vampyres" officially wrapped principal photography this past Sunday. It was one helluva ride! David Williams and the whole Red Scream team have definitely got a special little film on their hands. I can't wait to see what the final cut looks like. We spilled about seven gallons of blood on this one and five gallons of slime! It was definitely icky. The entire cast and crew was just super and any great cast deserves a second mention... David Williams, the writer, director and chief wackadoo of the Red Scream tribe deserves a tip of the hat. Its hard to believe such gruesome imagery can spring from the mind of such a gentle, soft spoken man. Deborah Ann Lorenzo, the producer has our respect for allowing ten people to crash in her house for ten days and not once flying off the handle about it. She's a stronger person than I, thats for sure. She along with assistant director Vanessa Griffin made sure the Red Scream train was always running on time and all did a bang-up job. This was the first feature film for director of photography Seng and he more than rose to the occasion. I know some of the images he captured are pure art and will blow people's minds by rising above what they expect out of low budget horror. The cast: Satu Rautaharju, Valeria Dombrovski, Ed Bergotld, Jess Weber and all the rest did a bang-up job! They brought the characters of "Red Scream Vampyres" to life. I think Valeria actually developed an addiction to our fake blood and wanted more and more of it constantly. I'm proud to have Anatomy FX's name attached to "Red Scream Vampyres".
Now, looking to the future, we have only nine days left until the Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors!!!! How did time get away from us? With little time to recover, we're back in the workshop and banging out props and display pieces for out table at the con. We hope to see you all there. We'll be doing prosthetic makeup demos all day long, displaying some props, selling some others and even giving away a few goodies. So come on by the Anatomy FX booth and say "howdy"! If not, I'll get one of my monsters to come 'round to all your homes, drag you ou by the scruff of your neck, belt you around the mouth and mouth you around the belt... do you get what I'm saying???!!!
JUNE 2, 2007: Greetings, friends and neighbors! Its been a while since I left an update as you can see. Thats 'cause we've been neck-deep in pre production on "Red Scream Vampyres". Things are winding down now as we creep closer and closer to principal photohraphy. We'll be leaving our beloved Jersey shore this Wednesday to head back upto Buffalo to commit some of these great FX we've been prepping to film. We can't wait, actually. These are some of the biggest blood gags we've ever created -should have some real gushers on our hands. And (as many of you know) I'm more partial to creatures, and we've got some fun ones I'm really looking forward to applying on this gig.
As soon as we get back to Jersey (around June 19th), we'll be jumping right into final prep and packing for the Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention up in Secaucus (June 29 - July 1). Anatomy FX has a table at the event and we're pretty darn psyched about that one. We'll have some props on display (some for sale and some just for your viewing pleasure) and we'll also be doing makeup and prosthetic demos throughout the day. Its been too long since I got to rub elbows with my people and I'm really looking forward to getting back to a convention and seeing all the raving drooling horror hounds again. So come on out to the convention if you can. You can view the details at http://www.creationent.com/cal/fangony.htm.
MARCH 30, 2007: "When it rains, it pours", is how the old saying goes. Well they weren't lying! We've been in heavy duty pre-production on "Red Scream Vampyres" for a few weeks now. Its going swimmingly. I recently recieved a call asking if I'd like to create some makeups for a children's theater production of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" which would be performed in May. Why they're doing a Christmas story in May, I have no idea, but it looks like we'll get the chance to re-create Rick Baker's kick-ass Grinch makeup as well as about a dozen Whos for this one. Its not set in stone yet, but it should be fun if it does happen. Then recently, David -the director of "Red Scream Vampyres" got the idea to shoot a mini "mockumentary" to tie-in to the release of the film. He asked if I could come up with a way to make Twinkies bleed (which is a LOT of fun, by the way) and also asked for a little mutant fetus. I'm excited about him! I sculpted and molded him completely in a record two hours last night. His name is Thurman because he reminds me of the fat kid from "Bad Santa"! Wait til you see him! THEN I recieved a call from our good friends at Six Flags asking if we could squeeze in some airbrush artwork for a new show they have coming up this summer season -no problemo! Bring it on!
So as you can see, we're stretched pretty thin these days, but thats just how we like it! Keep checking back on the Red Scream Gallery for more goodies soon! If Thurman is recieved well, I may actually consider sculpting a Thurman 2.0 for retail sale.
MARCH 14, 2007: Well, children, I thought it was about time to wipe clean the news page so we can fill it up once more with current announcements. From now on all new announcements will be posted at the top of the page as well so you don't have to scroll down for the new stuff. I try to make things as easy on you as possible.
ANYWHO... Jessie and I have recently returned from our first trip to Buffalo, NY where we met most of the cast of "Red Scream Vampyres", the new horror film we'll be providing all of the FX for. We lifecast a ridiculous amount of people in the two days we were there. There will be a lot of gore and some cool creatures to boot, so we had to be sure we got what we needed from everyone on this trip. Sculpting begins today in preparation for a June 8 start date for filming. That doesn't leave us much time, but we always up to the challenge! The director David and producer Debra we very cool people and we look forward to going into battle with them to tackle this beast of a film. Be sure to check the new "Red Scream Vampyres" photo gallery periodically for pictures of the work as we complete it.
Yesterday was the broadcast of "Eye on Ocean County" that Jessie and I appeared on for CN8. I think it turned out fairly well. We managed to sound like we actually knew what we were talking about as the host asked us questions about our careers, the film industry and even horror's influences on impressionable viewers. If you missed it yesterday, its being re-run again at 6:00 P.M. today -if you live in the Ocean County area, that is.
